i have a fleet of jellyfish in my room,
they were made by my friend claire, crocheted out of yarn.
crocheted is a weird word.

i believe that spaces have deep influence on us,
what we surround ourselves with both matters and says something.
i felt drawn to share my room with you this morning,
i've shown you before, but now it has curtains and a few more jellyfish, and some shirts in lovely colors that happened to be sitting on my dresser (which is really a bar hutch).

0001_room.jpg0002_room.jpg 0003_room.jpg0004_room.jpg0006_room.jpg

from Claire: Before making these, I was thinking a lot about our lack of control over life's circumstances.  Similarly, jellyfish don't have much control over where they move or what they run into: they just have to go with the tide.  With that in mind, I started crocheting with no set pattern: I let the patterns come to me organically and spontaneously, making each one unique.

cosmo why do you decide to sing at 11am right when you wake up, and then 11pm, right when i am getting the blanket to put you to bed?  this is hilarious, since you laze around all day sitting on that one branch.  do you care that i can't stop laughing when you randomly get pumped on life and do this? can't help it. it's cute.

also, how do you feel about me putting you on the ground the other day just so i could watch you walk around the house? i need to video it because it's The Cutest Thing Ever.

jessica and ronnie::::::::: together since she was eighteen.
he did everything right to appease her dad who is a pastor.  you win, ronnie! :) :) they've been waiting for this day for a year.  jessica planned everything to a T, but released the day to the wind and had fun.  structure with freedom-- a willingness to be organic within a grid.  things i am trying to work on in my life right now.  both are needed.  both are lovely.  they need each other.

i am pretty much, naturally, an indoors person.  i have grown more fond of the outdoors, mostly from being friends with people like Rosanna, who is an REI/camping queen, and people like Rachel who canoe the boundary waters and go ice-fishing.

i like making spaces....
creating a sense of home in a unique way.
i've never really created a unique space outdoors.
i've relied on other people for that in the past.

well..... the time and inspiration came to me when i found that yellow shelf up there at the long beach flea market.  we have this random empty space in the backyard of the pink house.... completely forgotten about and unused.  so i decided to transform it. pay attention to it.
0002_back,yard.jpg

i also found these really nice glass containers to plant my succulents.
this was another barrier to move past: PLANTS.
i have labeled myself as a person who can't keep plants alive.
i bought these succulents a few weeks ago and have been scared to re-pot them and give them their own place. well..... faced the fear and did it.  i'm scared i will wake up one morning to completely dead plants. but hey. trying!
0003_back,yard.jpg

oh right. the point of this post was going to be the memorial day picnic that i had with friends and neighbors.  neighbors who are friends.  friends who get to be my neighbors.  one of those people is carl, val's husband. a talented soul who brought us some music.
0005_back,yard.jpg

cosmo came to the picnic! he loves being outside, he turns his head 180 and looks at everything. curious little cat,

today my worlds converged and i got to photograph a yoga instructor.
she's actually into yoga motion. yoga mixed with dance.
freeing up the mind and the body.

at the beginning of a session i usually tell people to let it all out.
that could mean a lot of things...
but what i'm getting at is to release anxiety....
settle into the space....
accept who you are and live it.
i asked donna to let it all out....
and she moved into a five or ten minute yoga flow sesh.
highlight!!
donna you have grace and fun and depth.
thank you for today,

donna. so pretty,

doing the dishes is sometimes fun for me.
often in the morning i have to stop myself and spend time paying attention to my soul first instead of filling the morning space with cleaning.
cleaning is easy and gets tactile results.
nourishing your spirit can seem murky and hard to pin down.
which it is.
but it always feels good.
much more PRODUCTIVE than dishes in the long run. eh?

anyway,
usually there's a pretty broad color spectrum going on with my dishes,
it seems like everything i own is colorful.
today though,
everything was white.

i was amazed and got out my camera to take photos.
then i cut up my strawberries and bananas for breakfast...
ate,
did those dishes,
and then there was yellow added in.
what?
unintentional.
i love when the stars align.
well, they always align.
it's really nice when i notice it.
