we had the 3rd SEEING class last weekend, and my dad came!
i highly encourage iphone photography, and that photo up there of him with his iphone and the gold glitter leaf just gets me deep down.  its humbling that he's taking the role of student in my class.  its exciting to have him in my world.  he's one of those people who never wants gifts, and told me that me bringing a friend to church counts as my gift. awesome.  love you daddy daddy!!

ps, he calls me shenanigans.

my roommate peeked out of the bathroom with half her makeup done and her hair in a towel and noticed coz had flown over to her toast and was eating the crust. my first urge was to photograph it.  that's not always the first urge for me, surprisingly.  i often try to soak in life without recording it.  these reminds me though of how my mom approached motherhood: when my brothers poured a whole jar of honey on the couch------- her first thought was to laugh, her second thought was to get out the camera.  LOVE YOU MOM!

this morning i went grocery shopping in my pj's the second i woke up.

i love how the morning trader-joes culture is full of older people & moms with babies.
i got a cup of coffee from peets right before, and my coffee proceeded to spill on me about 5 times.  all over my shirt, my car, my uggs and then ending with the grocery store floor.

in contrast, yesterday's barista made a heart in my latte foam, and i drank it in silence while reading a book and eating a chocolate croissant.  oh, life.

although i dislike tripods,
that didnt stop me from exploring night photos of the stars in iowa.
it was fun to experiment with long exposures and holding the camera still in my hands but also embracing the movement and seeing what came.

i  wonder if you know how happy these make me.
my favorite word right now is space.
in all senses of the word.
sky space
soul space
all kinds of space.

love ginger, but not fizzy ginger drinks. LOVE yogurt. Plain, with blueberries and walnuts and drizzle of honey. HOWEVER, next time you are in TJoes, please pick up the 6 pack of vanilla/blueberry whipped yogurt. The blueberry is okay, but the vanilla ????....the vanilla is now my little obsession.

its amazing what happens when you let people see your fears.
in telling you i have travel issues, i've received so much help & support-----
so thank you.

the minnesota/iowa trip was amazing.
i got to see one of my best friends get married,
got to experience being a photography student instead of the teacher,
and also got to shoot a 12 gauge gun. i know.

i read something this morning that talked about carrying home with you, because you're always you.  that spoke to me.

when i was on the plane coming back, i was fascinated with the way the light was shifting thousands of feet in the air.  the joy of travel. who knew.

Ohhh. Every time you post something I should be prepared to love you more.

I love the way the light moves on a place too - but never thought to photograph it. You are special.

i'm entertained by the term "travel situation". i like that that's what we're calling it now.

i'm glad you had a great time in the midwest. i need to hear more about this gun shooting thing. travel changes you, apparently. ;)

you love ginger ale, too??? it's my favorite soda, especially on planes. espECIALLY on planes.

(06.09.11 @ 07:16 PM)
Leah Bean says:

Actually, although I'd identify with pacifism and goodness and peace and all those things, I want to learn to shoot a gun. I dunno why.

I like that you give me permission, just by reading your blog, to feel something and not know why, and just be.

(06.10.11 @ 05:19 AM)
blaire says:

people only drink ginger ale on planes. not you. but most people. In my 2 1/2 years at the restaurant, I've had maybe 2 people order ginger ale EVER. but, on a plane - everyone wants the stuff. WHY?

(06.10.11 @ 11:58 AM)
isabel says:

i am so excited for you to travel and realize the millions of gems that are buried in the experience. and ginger ale. well shit, is there anything better than ginger ale?

i rented a car for the first time yesterday.
i had to pay $25 extra per day because of not being 25.
but since i'm now paying so much for this thing i've grown to love it. and there was something about renting a car on my own that was a small milestone for me.  being an adult, being free, getting out of my box.

i'm in minnesota for a few days for a photography workshop with jesh de rox but today was a day of wandering and sitting by a lake and drinking caribou coffee.
the trip started by seeing my friend rachel in the minneapolis airport-------- we had major celebrations and i hope people thought we were going crazy. because we were. her wedding is in a week in iowa, which is where i'm headed on friday!
traveling isn't my first choice of fun things to do, as i briefly mentioned a few weeks ago regarding my trip to the czech, but this has surprisingly proved to be relaxing and refreshing and inspiring so far. in my heart i want to experience everything really deeply, and i always leave trips feeling disconnected and disappointed. i realized that i needed an attitude shift: i'm now practicing receiving each experience and moment as enough.  trying to not want more. (its hard.)

as my plane landed i had a magical moment,
this song came on my ipod the second the wheels hit the ground.

just be by kristy hawkshaw & tiesto:
you can travel the world but you can't run away
from the person you are in your heart

okay God, i receive.
