they met on PlentyofFish.com, and proudly displayed their profiles at the guest-book table so everyone could get a glimpse into the way they met.

Jeff's!
I am happy.  My stars are aligning. I am very creative, but also down to earth.  I believe living your purpose is what is most important outside of family and friends.  I have a strong appreciation for music, the arts, Steeler's  football, and all things healthy.  I strive to keep myself fit mentally, physically, and spiritually.  I'm interested in meeting new people, seeing if we enjoy each other's company, becoming friends, and if fortunate...more.  I'm not interested in drama or games.

and here's Rachel's,
My head thinks too much and my soul delights in dance.  Make me laugh and I'll laugh out loud.  Sit down with me and engage in discussion.  Travel with me and discover the interesting aspects of the world we've not yet seen.  I believe in God and the community he provides for us on Earth.  I believe the beat of the drum should be explored and hips should sway.  I believe lovingkindness is one of the most beautiful words because each part necessarily loses its validity when separated from the other.  If I work out enough and keep jumping higher and higher....perhaps one day I'll take off and fly.

and here they are, married.
THERE'S HOPE, PEOPLE!

they had a bagpiper!

one of the sweetest parts of their wedding was the dancing. rachel has been a ballet dancer for a long time, and it was so clear that it was in her. life and joy :) loved it.

wedding location: San Diego Botanical Garden (formerly Quail Gardens)

Hi Shannon,

I love your work! I ran into your botanic garden wedding photos - I am actually looking into that venue as a possibility for my wedding next May. I am wondering if you'd be able to tell me what time the ceremony was? An idea from a good photographer would help. I am one myself and obsessed with these things, as you may imagine ;) It just looked like the ceremony site in the walled garden might be backlit at and a few hrs. before sunset. Ours needs to be from 5-10 next year as that is their new policy.

Thanks!

tim and marisa.

tim was the first person i met at Biola where we went to school, and from day one he was THE happiest, friendliest person.  for the past 5 years, feels like his smile has never left him.

marisa and i were art majors together,
which explains the reason her wedding was so pretty.
she made everything.
hand-made literally hundreds of felt and fabric flowers.
made the bridesmaids' headbands.
made the paper cranes.
SO PRETTY!!

to photograph my two good friends,
on their wedding day,
a wedding on campus at biola university,
= so fun for me.

at the beginning of the day i realized that i was all jazzed up because i work best when i have a deep sense of familiarity.  i love photographing the same place over and over and finding new things each time.  i haven't photographed a wedding here until now.... but doing life here for five years made me quite quite familiar.  so the whole day felt so normal. in a special way that i really enjoyed.

jessica and ronnie::::::::: together since she was eighteen.
he did everything right to appease her dad who is a pastor.  you win, ronnie! :) :) they've been waiting for this day for a year.  jessica planned everything to a T, but released the day to the wind and had fun.  structure with freedom-- a willingness to be organic within a grid.  things i am trying to work on in my life right now.  both are needed.  both are lovely.  they need each other.

confession.
my roommate asked me if i had OCD after living with me for 2 days.
genuine inquiry.

she has good reason.
tonight i stayed up 3 hours later than normal because i got the idea to add a testimonial section to my blog.  i have a little word document where i store nice emails from clients and blog commenters etc., so i sifted through it and found my favorites. that took a while.  next i had to figure out how to make a new page on my blog.... that took a few minutes.  next i had to typeset everything. took forever.  then i chose which order they'd go in to make it flow.  i read everything about ten times each.  next, published the page and checked out how it looked...... did that fifteen, maybe twenty times?  then decided i wanted to make everyone's names small caps.  another republish. then... lets BLOG about this experience! great idea! and here we are.

so now i have worked myself up quite a bit, and i feel like the most showered-upon person alive.  a small random idea at midnight..... has left me with my heart full.  words mean a lot to me, and to look at all of these word poems that so accurately name what i have been aiming to do....... it makes me feel so happy.

it worked.
you get it.

so, check out my new testimonials page.
which i named 'a few testimonials' so that it would be first alphabetically on that list, so that it wouldn't mess up the nice triangle shape that the words make.  these things matter.

possibly OCD,
shannon. :)

their relationship has strength but also has lots of space.
let me explain.
it seems like they let each other be.
they meld in a really lovely way.
two whole people bringing themselves to be nourishing and lifegiving to the other.
marriage seems like it can be a push and pull, a struggle, a place of tension....
or it can be a place with lots of space.
to grow, to be.

------------- enjoy the wedding of kate and tim.

kate was an etsy queen,
as well as a jcrew queen.
outfits are all from jcrew.
including THAT AMAZING NECKLACE.
do you LOVE those birdseed hearts?
took one home for cosmo.
the wedding was held in a friend's backyard in stockton, california.
everyone pitched in,
everyone helped,
and kate rocked the world with her skills and her beauty.
love and peace :)

their favorite part was the cake.
first thing they told me at their initial fun get-to-know-you meeting.
the part she was looking forward to all day and even talked about as she was getting her makeup done.
"I CANT WAIT FOR THE CAKE."

honestly.....
best cake i've ever had.
cookies and cream....
layers of cookies,
layers of fudge,
layers of goodness.
ahh!
erin, i like your priorities, girl.

their wedding was at the red horse barn in huntington beach!
yay erin and JT :)
